The Hungarian Computer Music Foundation was founded in 1991 by Andrea Szigtevári to advance computer music theory and practice in Hungary. Since then, the foundation has been initiating and co-organizing projects connecting music with new technology e.g. Short Circuits minifestivals in the Spring Festival, Budapest (1992-1996); the computer music course of the Bartók Seminar in Szombathely (1991-2003). The foundation has a strong commitment towards bringing contemporary artists together and new forms of art education. In 1998 a new "stop-gap" event in the Hungarian contemporary music field was initiated by the foundation together with British Council Budapest - called Making New Waves Festival. From 1999 the Making New Waves Festival has been co-organized with the Trafó - Contemporary Art Center and became an annual international event, which serves also as a pool for performing the results of different Hungarian and international projects.
